The maneki-neko, known as the 'beckoning cat', is a popular Japanese figurine that is believed to bring good luck to its owner. Made of ceramic or plastic in modern times, the figurine depicts a cat, usually a calico Japanese Bobtail, with a raised paw gesturing a beckoning motion. These figurines are commonly seen in shops, restaurants, pachinko parlors, dry cleaners, laundromats, bars, casinos, hotels, nightclubs, and other businesses near the entrance, as well as in households. Additionally, some maneki-neko come with a mechanical paw that gently sways back and forth.
